Much attention is given to the importance of our mental and physical health, but what about our spiritual health?

As it turns out, our spirits, minds, and bodies are deeply connected. The health of a person can significantly affect the health of another. And although spirituality will not cure you, it will help you navigate troubled waters and cope with pain.

But what is spiritual health? Does it require religious beliefs and ideals, guilt, church services, and atonement? It might surprise you that there is not one way one needs to take to be spiritually healthy—it is different for everyone.

What Are Some Of The Comforts Of Spiritual Health

The comforts of being a spiritual person are endless. It can create a sense of belonging and purpose, help you be more mindful and feel calmer, and create hope when things are not going the way you plan them to. The huge thing is spirituality can provide hope when there does not look or feel like there is any. Many spiritual practices can help you make or find peace.

Seven ways to boost your spiritual health

Some people find spirituality through religion; others do not. To achieve spiritual health, there is no right or wrong way. If you are unsure where to start initially, here are a few ways to aid you to begin.

1. Connect with your faith community. Find an organization or someone that shares your thoughts and beliefs and reconnect with them (online, over the phone, or in person). Reach out to a spiritual leader or pastor and find ways to connect with like-minded individuals within your faith community who can encourage and support you.

2. Practice yoga. To acquire the spiritual benefits of the practice, you can be something other than a yogi. Yoga is for everyone at any level. Besides stretching and strengthening your body, it can help your spirit and mind re-create your life journey with Alma’s Treatments. Alma intends to create a safe and sacred environment, honoring boundaries, free will, trust, and self-responsibility. It limits the process if the client is unwilling to participate and “be available for help.” Her treatment session is 90 mins. She works with fully clothed clients on her therapy table using a combination of hands-off and light touch. Alma’s work includes many modalities and dimensions, including Shamanic Practices. A new and exciting addition to her treatment sessions is an energy mat created by Swiss Bionics and certified by Health Canada. The frequencies used are the same that come from the earth and are the exact frequencies we need for maintaining and regaining our health.

3. Keep a journal. The act of writing can increase your awareness, help you process your emotions, and give you a non-judgmental space to express your feelings at the moment. Write down your worries and fears, or start a daily gratitude journal with prompts.

4. Volunteer or help others. If you do not have a faith community, that is okay. Another way to feel connected to your faith and spirituality is to find a cause that is important to you and to give back. You can become a tutor or mentor, work at a food pantry, or be a fur parent. Doing so can grow your community and connect you with like-minded people. Helping others will also give you a sense of gratitude and purpose.

5. Spend time in nature. Whether you live in the desert, the mountains, or near the beach, spending time in nature can boost your spiritual health. You cannot help but disconnect from your day, phone, and troubles. Watching the trees swaying in the wind, the birds, or the crashing waves on the shoreline can be therapeutic.

6. Focus on your hobbies. Find things you enjoy doing, whether it be knitting, coloring, cooking, playing a sport, or working out. Focusing on things you want can bring back a sense of purpose and keep you focused at the moment—even just for a little bit.

7. Meditate. Meditating for as little as five minutes can help reduce stress, depression, and anxiety and increase your mindfulness. If you need assistance, there are some excellent guided meditation apps, such as Calm or Balance.
